U142
The U series USB to PCMCIA (PC) Card Adapters/Readers
are new models developed in response to overwhelming customer demand. Plans are to
add support for more models of 3G datacard during 2007.
Take your 3G wireless internet access anywhere using the U
series PCMCIA (PC) Card Readers. The USB Card Adapter/Reader allows the use of a
wide number of high speed datacards via a USB port enabling these PC cards to be
used with a desktop or laptop without a PCMCIA CardBus slot.
The U series is ideal for customers who live in an area without
high speed wired internet access, or whose laptop does not offer a PCMCIA/CardBus
slot, such as the new Dell latitude X1 models. The adapter/reader is compatible
with desktops, notebooks or specialist systems (such as Point of Sale machines).
Most CardBus wireless modem cards are compatible with the U
series; check the list below to find out whether yours is included or contact us
for advice.
Please note that the unique hardware design of the U142 has
been developed especially for this type of wireless modems, so other card types
are not supported. The U142 does not support memory cards.
To identify which USB reader model you need you will need to
know the manufacturer and their model name for your card.
Operators often offer more than one model, and also
discontinue old models and start shipping new ones, so this list is not
exhaustive. Some operators also use the same product name to cover more than one
card model. However, if you already have your 3G card you should be able to work
out which USB adapter you need to support it from here. (The manufacturer's name
and model number is usually on a label on the back of the card.)
Option Wireless make a large number of different models, and
the best way to be sure which model you have is to check the letter at the start
of the serial number (on the back of the card).
Note that if Wireless LAN is integrated into your card, this
will not work via a USB adapter.
Driver support for Windows 7, XP 2000, 2003
Server and PowerPC using Mac OS, X 10.2.8 or new
versions, Intel Macintosh using Mac OS X 10.4.0 or new versions.
Vista 32 bit only.
Not suitable for Mac Mini, PowerBook and
MacBook

*Notes
- Note on Option Models - There are many different Option
card models, and operators do not always refer to the Option Wireless model
name. The most reliable way to differentiate between them is using the two
letters at the start of the serial number.
- Verizon PC5740 or KPC650 card + U132 combinations support a
manual connection, but the Verizon VZAccess software does not recognise the
card. We are working with Verizon to add this function.
- The PC5740, PC5220 and PX500 cards may be labelled with 'Audiovox'
or 'UTStar'. If you are going to be using one of these cards, please
download the latest drivers. (Download this
file, and replace the previous version in your
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory.)
