Windsor, ON, October 19, 2004 - Axxon Computer Corporation introduces the world's first 64-Bit 133 MHz PCI-X Multi-Port I/O Card suitable for installation in either 32 or 64 Bit, 3.3 or 5-volt PCI/PCI-X expansion slots.

Server systems are being manufactured with limited or no serial / parallel ports. In addition these servers are typically offered with PCI-X expansion slots capable of supporting 66, 100 or 133 MHz bus speeds. To date, the only method of adding serial or parallel ports has been to plug-in 33 MHz, 32-Bit I/O cards. Installing a 32-bit expansion card will automatically slow down the PCI-X bus speed to 33 MHz PCI mode, which causes a concern for the demanding customer. To make matters worse, many server motherboards utilize 2 or more PCI-X expansion slots to a common PCI-X bus. In this configuration a 66 MHz or faster network adapter or similar add-on circuit board will be forced to operate at 33 MHz to accommodate the slower 32-bit expansion card.

To solve this dilemma, Axxon has created a "Universal PCI-X 133 MHz Multi-Port 2S1P I/O Card" which enables users to add 2 (Dual) serial + 1 (Single) parallel ports to these types of motherboards without concern of the PCI-X bus speed. This new product family functions at 3.3 volt PCI-X 64-bit 33, 66, 100, 133 MHz bus speeds while still being backwards compatible with the traditional 5 volt PCI bus operating at 33 Mhz speeds.

Software support is simplified via readily available device drivers for Windows, Linux and OS/2 operating systems.

Now customers can choose between an integrated driver coming from Silicom and
a side driver where they can continue to use the original card's drivers and use Silicom
side driver for the BYPASS functionality only. This approach makes the bypass
integration process simpler, especially in applications where the original networking
driver has been customized.
